Construction is progressing. Foundation work for the new facility has been completed with the back-filling of the foundation walls. Various underground utility and piping services are being installed now. Portions of existing classrooms having direct contact with the new building are being modified structurally to accommodate the new facility. Environmental remediation services will begin on July 1 along with modifications of the office ceilings and HVAC system. Preliminary work has also begun on major improvements to the school nurse’s office and examination area.

Things got started with a bang on Friday, March 16. The entire building vibrated with the onset of construction. We literally ♪ felt the earth move under our feet ♪! The first order of business is to remove the tree stumps and then move the topsoil to the new playground. Next, the area will be leveled, the courtyard cleared, and a leeching drain installed. The concrete will be poured next week. We are excited to see things progressing on schedule, and we praise God for what He is doing here at PVCS!

The contract for Phase Two of our Strategic Plan, The Center for Science and the Arts, has been awarded to Raymond R. Houle Construction, Inc. of Ludlow. We expect onsite work to begin early in May. To meet our operating budget, we must raise $500,000 by June 2009 through a combination of donations to the Annual Fund, Gifts-in-Kind, and donations to the Building Fund. If you would like to make an online donation, please select the “Donate Now” button on this web page. Please be aware that donations to the Annual Fund and Building Fund will be designated for this project until June 2009. We anticipate a capital campaign will take place sometime thereafter to complete the total long-range plan consisting of Phases Three, a new gymnasium and classroom complex, and Four, an auditorium and additional office areas. To volunteer your services or make a donation other than online, please contact Gary Coombs, Director of Development, at (413) 782-8031 or via email to gcoombs@pvcs.org.

It has begun! Saturday, April 5, we set out to dismantle and relocate the playground equipment in preparation for the onset of construction. We were blessed to have twenty men and boys show up to help. God gave us a beautiful day after a day and a half of rain. The swing sets were taken apart and the posts dug out of the ground. The rain had softened up the soil making the job that much easier to accomplish. The cement footings were then broken off the posts with sledgehammers. Mr. Robert Bragg operated a backhoe and lifted the equipment out of the ground. A jackhammer was then used to break up the cement play areas. It was a good time of hard work and fellowship.

Our heartfelt thanks to the men and boys who helped. You worked heartily as unto the Lord. (Colossians 3:23-24)

Springfield, MA – After months of seeking God's will and evaluating numerous alternatives, we believe God has opened a door of opportunity for us to begin construction on phase two of our four-phase PVCS Strategic Plan.  The new building, linking the middle and high school wings of the present facility, will be called The Center for Science and the Arts.  Groundbreaking will take place April 2nd with occupancy expected to coincide with the beginning of the second semester of the 2008 – 2009 school year or perhaps earlier.
